Felicity Huffman returns to television in the second season of “Criminal Minds: Evolution”. She will guest star as Dr. Jill Gideon, the ex-wife of the show’s original lead, Jason Gideon. Dr. Jill Gideon has ties to the “Gold Star” mystery that the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) is investigating in the upcoming season.

As a biological psychiatrist, her expertise becomes crucial in their pursuit of a serial killer network. This marks one of Huffman’s first acting roles since her involvement in the 2019 “Varsity Blues” scandal. The show is set to premiere on Paramount+ later this year.

The official description of Felicity Huffman Returns states she is “a brilliant biological psychiatrist who agrees to help the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit investigate a murderous conspiracy theory. Jill is reluctant to return to the bureau’s elite team given her complicated history with David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) and her dead ex-husband, Jason Gideon (previously played by Mandy Patinkin), but soon realizes her specific skill set could help them uncover another clue to the elusive Gold Star mystery.”

Production is underway for Season 2 of the Paramount+ revival, “Criminal Minds: Evolution.” Academy Award nominee Felicity Huffman joins the returning cast, including Joe Mantegna, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, Zach Gilford, Ryan-James Hatanaka, Adam Rodriguez, and Paget Brewster.

Huffman brings a wealth of experience to the series. She’s best known for her Emmy-winning role (Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series) on ABC’s “Desperate Housewives.” She has also garnered critical acclaim for her work on shows like “American Crime,” “Sports Night,” and the Netflix miniseries “When They See Us.” For her big-screen performance in “Transamerica,” she received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.

Season 1 followed the FBI’s BAU team as they tracked down a network of serial killers who emerged during the COVID lockdowns. Erica Messer returns as showrunner and executive producer for Season 2, joined by Breen Frazier, Chris Barbour, Glenn Kershaw, and Mark Gordon. ABC Signature and CBS Studios produce the series.

The original series, “Criminal Minds”, premiered in 2005 and was led by Jason Gideon (played by Mandy Patinkin). Although Gideon’s wife was alluded to in dialogue, she was never seen or named. Now, with the revival and sequel, we finally get to meet Dr. Jill Gideon and explore her connections to the BAU2. The show promises more twisted storylines and the return of beloved characters as they face a network of serial killers built during the pandemic.
