Jamie Dornan, the actor who played Christian Grey in the movie adaptation of “50 Shades of Grey,” recently revealed that he “hid out” at the house of the film’s director, Sam Taylor-Johnson, while dealing with the“ridicule” that followed the movie’s release. In an interview, Dornan explained that the juxtaposition of earning rave reviews for his role in “The Fall” and mockery for his role as Christian Grey took a toll on him.
Dornan revealed that he and his family stayed at Taylor-Johnson’s house in the country to avoid the negative press that followed the film’s release. He said, “They let us have their place in the country and we sort of hid there for a while and shut ourselves off from the world a little bit”. Dornan also revealed that he received “career-altering” award nominations for his role in “The Fall,” which made the negative reviews for “50 Shades of Grey” all the more difficult to deal with.
“It made so much money so like… films two and three were greenlit overnight,” Dornan said. “It was a strange thing because there’s a bit of ridicule here and I’m now contracted to do two more, knowing that there will be much more damnation to come.”

“The fans, for the most part, loved it and it made a ton of money,” he said. “I think if everyone’s honest with themselves, that was the main two intentions going into it. We were aware that the critics probably weren’t going to love it because the critics did not love the books. I don’t know how we would’ve changed that when we were sticking so close to the books. But there’s no regret or anything.”
