Sky has unveiled the first look at its thrilling new LGBTQ+ period drama Mary & George, which tells the true story of a treacherous mother and son who used their charm and sexuality to manipulate King James I and his court.
The Plot
The seven-part limited series is based on the book The King’s Assassin by Benjamin Woolley, which chronicles the rise and fall of Mary Villiers, Countess of Buckingham, and her son George Villiers, Duke of Buckingham, in the 17th century. Mary, a cunning and ambitious woman, molded her beautiful and charismatic son George to become King James’ “all-powerful lover” and gain influence and wealth. However, their scandalous relationship also attracted enemies and dangers, as they faced political intrigues, religious conflicts, and personal betrayals.
